Common Risks When Moving People

Participants will explore the most common risks and injuries caused by unsafe practices when moving people. They will also learn about the long-term impacts these risks can have on both individuals and organisations.

This section provides an overview of the laws governing safe moving and handling practices. Participants will examine the responsibilities of both employers and employees to ensure compliance and workplace safety.

Risk Assessments and Personal Handling Plans

Participants will gain the skills to conduct risk assessments and identify hazards in various scenarios involving moving people. They will also develop personal handling plans that prioritise the safety, dignity, and well-being of individuals.

Principles of Safe Movement

This module delves into the anatomy of the body, focusing on the musculoskeletal system, centre of gravity, and lever system. Participants will learn how to apply these principles to move people safely and effectively.

Manual Handling Equipment

Participants will learn about the types of equipment available for moving people, including hoists, slide sheets, and transfer boards. The course will also cover maintenance and testing requirements to ensure equipment safety.

Practical Application

Through hands-on practice, participants will refine their techniques for moving people individually and as part of a team. They will also apply their skills using a variety of equipment and address emergency handling situations in realistic scenarios.
