The Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 require all employers to make arrangements to ensure their employees receive immediate attention if they are injured or taken ill at work. This includes carrying out a risk assessment, appointing a suitable amount of first aiders and providing appropriate first aid training. The QA Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work (RQF) qualification is designed for individuals who wish to act as an emergency first aider in their workplace. How long is the Emergency First Aid at Work course?

The classroom course is one day. The blended version is online learning followed by a half-day practical session in Gloucester.

How much does it cost?

A place on our scheduled blended course is £84.99 + VAT. For on-site training we quote per group of up to 12 delegates.

How long is the certificate valid?

Three years. HSE strongly recommends a short annual refresher to keep skills current.

Is EFAW enough for my workplace?

EFAW suits lower-risk workplaces. Higher-risk or larger sites may need the three-day First Aid at Work course. Your first aid needs assessment decides this, and we can help you with it.

Can you train our team at our premises?

Yes. We train up to 12 people per session at your workplace across Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, Worcestershire, Oxfordshire, Wiltshire, Bristol, Bath and North East Somerset and Somerset.

What ID do learners need?

For the accredited course, the awarding body needs date of birth and proof of ID. A bank card is fine. We only look at it; we never copy or keep it.

Do I need Emergency First Aid at Work or First Aid at Work?

It depends on your workplace first aid needs assessment. Emergency First Aid at Work suits lower-risk workplaces such as offices and shops. First Aid at Work covers more conditions and suits higher-risk or larger workplaces. Not sure? Call us on 07811 025169 and we will help you work it out.

How long is the Emergency First Aid at Work certificate valid?

Your Level 3 Emergency First Aid at Work certificate is valid for 3 years. To stay qualified you need to retake the course before it expires. The HSE also recommends a short annual refresher to keep your skills sharp.

How many first aiders does my workplace need?

There is no fixed number: it comes from your first aid needs assessment, which looks at your hazards, number of staff, shifts and how far you are from emergency services. The HSE first aid guidance explains how to do it, and we can help you review your needs.

Is it really necessary to refresh our first aid skills?

Refreshing first aid skills is not a legal requirement for most workplaces, but it is highly recommended by the HSE to minimise the risk of skill fade. Regular updates help ensure your team remains confident and prepared to respond effectively in an emergency.

However, in healthcare settings, annual first aid updates are required as part of CQC compliance to maintain high standards of patient care and safety.

What ID do I need to bring?
